Remembering A New York That Was

Five years now since the Towers disappeared into clouds of fire, smoke and dust.

But anyone who lived or traveled to New York prior to that awful day on September 11th, 2001 remembers the symbol which fell. The Towers were the first thing you saw driving up the New Jersey Turnpike as you approached the City. If you lived in the area, it was the first sign that you were home.

I'll never forget my own experience with the Towers, both as a tourist and area resident. Here are a few visual reminders:

View from the top of one of the World Trade Center towers. The shadows of both towers appears in the right foreground. You could almost "see forever" on a clear day.
