Consequences of Socialism for Venezuela Have Been a Disaster!

Odd that so many extreme leftists in the U.S. worship the Venezuela model and would impose it on the U.S.

Margaret Thatcher once said: "The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money." I put it different: what do you do once your socialist policies have killed the goose that lays the golden eggs?

Take Venezuela as an example. Once a very prosperous South American nation with massive oil wealth they no longer have enough electricity to keep the lights on. They squandered their oil wealth on the usual socialist/communist boondoggles and there's little money left to actually run the country.

Left wing apologists point to a 30% hike in the minimum wage as proof of the social justice inherent in Venezuela's Bolivarian Revolution. What they fail to mention is that Venezuela is enduring one of the worst, lingering recessions worldwide. There are few jobs and the country suffers from triple digit inflation.

Even if you have money to spend there is a shortage of the basic essentials. Big government regulation means you have a hard time finding diapers for your baby, let alone milk. What does it say about a country where you have trouble finding toilet paper?

How do you change a situation that's gone from bad to worse when a dictatorship is in charge? Hugo Chavez died but was replaced by another stooge. Even with opponents sweeping legislative elections the socialists/communists stacked the courts and control the army. Ousting the criminals that have done this to their own people in the name of their failed ideology is almost impossible.

I pity the people of Venezuela who suffer for the cause of extreme socialism. I just marvel that ANYONE would want to repeat those same mistakes elsewhere. But that's the hubris of the left. They NEVER learn from history!

UPDATE: Food riots in Caracas!

UPDATE: Here's what happens to the poor who need medical care in Venezuela. Venezuela's socialist dictator claims "'I doubt that anywhere in the world, except in Cuba, there exists a better health system than this one." Really? Photographs suggest otherwise.

Meanwhile, thousands lined up overnight outside a state run grocery hoping to buy food only to be told that diapers, detergent and deodorant would be available that day.

Socialists call it the "Beautiful Revolution." Others call it tyranny and chaos. This is what happens when you kill the goose that lays the golden eggs. Why are socialists in the U.S. so eager to inflict that nightmare on this country?
