The Spartanburg County, South Carolina GOP held a straw poll this week. 776 people voted for their preference among the current GOP presidential candidates.
No surprise that Senator John McCain won, considering how hard he has worked to sign up every hot shot in the state. But McCain won with a mere 164 votes, or 21%.
Rudy Guiliani came in second, again no surprise, with 162 votes (21%).
You might expect that Mitt Romney, who has also received strong support from SC leaders would be third. But Rommney came in 4th with 80 votes (10%).
The real surprise was the strong showing by California Congressman Duncan Hunter who came in third with 158 votes (20%).
The full breakdown was:
Arizona Sen. John McCain: 164
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani: 162
