Great Britain and the world prepare to honor the Iron Lady!
I've been soaking in the steady stream of Thatcher tributes and commentary written on the occasion of Margaret Thatcher's passing and will offer a cross section later. But first an update on the funeral, which is to take place on Wednesday morning the 17th of April.
The service, order of which was released Monday, along with the military parade through London will be viewable in the U.S. on C-Span 2 starting at 4:15 AM EST.
Thatcher's children and two grandchildren, Michael and Amanda, who live in the United States with their mother after divorce from their father Mark are in London and pictured above outside Thatcher's home in Belgrave Square. Thousands of invited guests from all over the world will be in London for the service. Sadly, former First Lady Nancy Reagan, with the deepest regrets due to ill health is not able to attend along with former Soviet Leader Mikhail Gorbachev.
In the United States, the House of Representatives passed a unanimous resolution honoring Thatcher. Sadly, in the U.S. Senate scandal beleaguered Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) is blocking a similar resolution.
More details of the service and the parade here. As a special honor, Big Ben, the bell that rings the hours from the Elizabeth clock tower in Parliament will be silent.
Please join me in honoring this great woman and the cause of freedom which she so valiantly fought on behalf of ALL peoples!
