One of the big questions regarding the Benghazi attack that left four Americans including our Ambassador to Libya dead on September 11, 2012 is who came up with the idea to blame the attack on a You Tube video. Obama and top Administration officials made that claim over and over. Nearly as many times as Obama said "if you like your health care plan you can keep it. Period!"
In the wake of the attack the Administration repeatedly denied making false statements about the video to deflect blame and claimed that the intelligence available at the time was the basis for their statements. This was contradicted by Deputy CIA Director Mike Morell in sworn testimony before the House Intelligence Committee earlier in April.
Now, thanks to a Freedom of Information lawsuit filed by Judicial Watch, the self proclaimed "most transparent Administration in history" has been forced to release an email which shows direct White House involvement in the creation of the video lie and an attempt to shade the facts of the Benghazi attacks to protect Obama politically in the weeks before the 2012 election. The smoking gun is the September 14, 2012 email from Benjamin Rhodes, a mid level White House official with national security communications responsibilities. Rhodes has been at the heart of the unfolding story from the beginning, but this is the first actual document showing the role that he and the White House played in the great con game.
In that email Rhodes talks about the "goal" "to underscore that these protests are rooted in an Internet video, and not a broader failure of policy." He makes this claim despite NO EVIDENCE from any identified intelligence source to back it up. Rhodes reveals that the real purpose of this effort is "to reinforce the president and administration's strength and steadiness in dealing with difficult challenges." Later he adds: "President Obama provides leadership that is steady and statesmanlike."A blatant political goal not one tied to any particular policy or intelligence.
The email does raise a further question. It's unlikely that Rhodes simply took this task on himself. He would have been directed to do this. By whom? It would have to be a higher up at the White House.
It's also important to note that this email was largely hidden from Congress.
The lies about the video and the blatant politicization of intelligence are bad enough. Criminal even. But what's worse is that Rhodes went on to say that:"we will be resolute in bringing people who harm Americans to justice." Yet the killers of our Americans in Benghazi roam free and in the open. NO EFFORT has been made to bring the killers to justice. Meanwhile, hundreds of heavily armed federal agents are seizing cows in Nevada!
