When President Obama insisted that illegal immigrants would not be able to participate in the Dem plan for a government takeover of health care my Congressman, Joe Wilson, snapped and yelled "you lie."
White House transcript, presidential address to a joint session of Congress September 9, 2009:
OBMAMA: There are also those who claim that our reform efforts would insure illegal immigrants. This, too, is false. The reforms -- the reforms I'm proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally.
CONG. JOE WILSON: You lie! (Boos.)
THE PRESIDENT: It's not true.
The Congressional Research Service report clearly indicates that the bills before Congress lack an enforcement provision which would prohibit illegal aliens from taking advantage of this bill. Furthermore, in House committees Democrats voted against Republican backed amendments which would have addressed the issue.
White House Changes Tune: Admits Need for Enforcement!
Late Friday, after most people were busy with weekend plans, the White House released a statement to the news media. The statement is so embarrassing to President Obama's already shattered credibility that you won't even find it on the White House web site.
WH statement released to NBC news: Verification will be required when purchasing health insurance on the exchange. One option is the SAVE program (Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements) which states currently use to make sure that undocumented immigrants don't participate in safety-net programs for which they are ineligible.
Of course this changes nothing in either House or Senate bills. Obama made a lot of promises in his speech Tuesday, but that doesn't make it law.
Support Joe Wilson
Congressman Wilson immediately apologized for his outburst, but has been viciously attacked for stating the truth. Without Joe's outburst, Obama would be continuing to lie about the illegal immigrant issue in health care just as he lies by saying that abortion would not be covered or that if you like your current doctor and health plan, you can keep them.
The haters on the left are pouring money into the coffers of Joe Wilson's opponent for the 2nd district of South Carolina congressional seat. I encourage readers to show their support for Joe Wilson by donating what you can to help him fend off this assault. I made my contribution today and urge you to do the same.
If we lose conservatives like Joe Wilson, or my Senator Jim DeMint, who is also up for re-election in 2010, we lose the foundation for a conservative comeback. Don't let that happen!
