Bush Miers Rope a Dope

In Harriet We Trust?

Is the nomination of Harriet Miers the rope a dope of all time?

When President Bush nominated Harriet Miers, many Democrats, like Senate Minority Leader Reid openly embraced her. Many conservatives openly trashed her AND President Bush.

"I like Harriet Miers." Reid said in a statement released by his office.

Were Reid and other Democrats with similar sentiments simply trying to drive a wedge in the conservative base of support for President Bush? That base, which felt it was promised a certifiable conservative candidate?

It just might turn out that Ms. Miers IS a certifiable conservative, and a born again evangelical Christian to boot!

Oh yes... toss her to the lions! A CHRISTIAN! Not only that, but she taught Sunday School at Valley View Christian Church her former Dallas church of many years. She also called her long time pastor on the Sunday night before the nomination was made public! SHOCKING! There goes separation between church and state!

In a Tuesday news conference, President Bush added this to his earlier statements on Miers: ""I know her; I know her heart; I know what she believes."

Now that Democrats like Reid have practically endorsed Miers, it will be very difficult for them to step back from that endorsement as the news of Ms. Miers "deeply held personal beliefs" (a phrase that was used by NY Senator Schumer (D) to attack Justice Pryor) continues to come out.

And of course, mention religion to any constitutional originalist, like Justice Scalia, and he or she will remind you that Article VI, Clause 3 states: "no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office."

Finally, I'll be accepting apologies from my conservative friends who felt that if I didn't pile on Bush for this "betrayal" that somehow I was a Republican In Name Only (RINO).

Come on fellas, I'm waiting!
