Democrat Congressional Candidate Urges Illegals to Vote

The San Diego Union Tribune has the story:
If an election can turn on a sentence, this could be the one: “You don't need papers for voting.”

On Thursday night, Francine Busby, the Democratic candidate for the 50th Congressional District, was speaking before a largely Latino crowd in Escondido when she uttered those words. She said yesterday she simply misspoke.

But someone taped it and a recording began circulating yesterday. After she made that statement at the meeting, Busby immediately said: “You don't need to be a registered voter to help (the campaign).”
She said that subsequent statement was to clarify what she meant.

The recording, which was played yesterday on Roger Hedgecock's radio talk show, jolted the campaign.

Busby, a Cardiff school board member, is in a tight race with Republican Brian Bilbray, a congressman-turned-lobbyist, who has based his campaign on a tough anti-illegal-immigration stance. Busby has focused her campaign on ethics reform. The two are vying to replace Randy “Duke” Cunningham, who was jailed after pleading guilty to taking bribes.

Busby said she was invited to the forum at the Jocelyn Senior Center in Escondido by the leader of a local soccer league. Many of the 50 or so people there were Spanish speakers. Toward the end, a man in the audience asked in Spanish: “I want to help, but I don't have papers.”

It was translated and Busby replied: “Everybody can help, yeah, absolutely, you can all help. You don't need papers for voting, you don't need to be a registered voter to help.”
Freudian slip? Listen to the tape and decide.

San Diego talk show host Roger Hedgecock (web site) has the tape here.

Darn those folks with tape recorders! They're always catching Democrats say something that they didn't want the rest of us to hear.

Misspeaking, Misstating, Mistakes: Nothing New for Democrats

Did Busby misspeak? If so, why do Democrats consistently oppose efforts to require valid identification for voting?

Earlier this week Senate MINORITY Leader, the funereal looking Harry Reid "misstated" Senate ethics rules prohibiting accepting expensive gifts like boxing tickets.

Of course every Democrat has learned by the example of Bill Clinton who used the excuse "dumb mistake" to cover up just about everything, including former National Security Advisor Sandy "Stuff your socks with classified docs" Berger's illegal removal and destruction of highly classified documents from the National Archives.

Illegals Soon to Vote?

From the protests last month the slogan "Today we march, tomorrow we vote" was a familiar chant. How long will it be before illegals given legitimate residency status under the Senate immigration bill will be granted the right to vote?

It's already happening in New York City where local officials are pushing to allow anyone who lives in the city the right to vote in local elections.

And of course there is the concern that even with a requirement for state issued identification, illegals in some states are being granted driver's licenses which may be used to vote.

If we can't secure our borders, if we can't secure our democracy and the most precious thing we have, our vote, then how can we possibly secure our country and protect our freedom and our lives?
