The New York Treason: All The "News" That's Fit to Fake

You would think that when Reuters conceded they had been putting out phony photographs supporting Hezbollah propaganda in the war with Israel that other news outlets would redouble their efforts to be sure the same didn't happen.

You would think that the New York Treason would be especially careful about the "news" that gets into the paper after the Jayson Blair scandal and more recent criticism of the newspapers decision to publish highly classified national security programs.

But then, YOU would think.

So it probably won't come as a surprise that the New York Times is having their own fauxtography problem. A minor one, but still indicative of a bias from a newspaper that would question, double check and triple check ANY information given to them by those trying to win the war on terror.

The fauxtograph above was at the end of a series of photographs where the man pictured was shown scrambling all over the site of bomb damage in Tyre, Lebanon. The caption gave the impression that the man was dead "The mayor of Tyre said that in the worst hit areas, bodies were still buried under the rubble."

After it was brought to the New York Treason's attention that their caption was misleading, they made a correction claiming that the man was injured. Well that's interesting. It's entirely possible that the man fell while climbing on the rubble, even though no injuries are visible. But look closely at the hat tucked between his arm and torso in the foreground and his right leg which is resting on another piece of rubble.

If we're to believe the man is injured, and presumably unconscious, it's odd that he had the forethought to tuck his hat so it wouldn't slip down into the rubble. Most unconscious people also don't concern themselves with propping a leg up for comfort either.

Can you say phony photo? I knew you could!

In case you've been in your own unconscious state the last week and aren't up to speed on the apparent ability of major "news" organizations to print just about anything that makes Israel or the West look bad, Zombie Time has the best comprehensive roundup, including fauxtos of a woman screaming after learning her house was destroyed. Then she's fauxtographed in front of another bombed house... then a third. And in two of the photos she's wearing the same scarf!

Zombie Time documents how pervasive the fauxto fraud is with the following four different methods:
  1. Digitally manipulating images after the photographs have been taken.
  2. Photographing scenes staged by Hezbollah and presenting the images as if they were of authentic spontaneous news events.
  3. Photographers themselves staging scenes or moving objects, and presenting photos of the set-ups as if they were naturally occurring.
  4. Giving false or misleading captions to otherwise real photos that were taken at a different time or place.

You'll want to see the rest here.
Thanks to Michelle Malkin for finding the Zombie Time article. She has more on the phony photo scam here.
