Bush News Conference: "A Fresh Perspective???"

Alright, I did my optimistic post this morning... Here's the flip side:

Well the news just gets better and better.

President Bush announced at 1:07 PM that Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld has resigned.

It's a sadder day with this news. And it won't change the tone in Washington where the Party of "NO" has taken power in the House and may do so in the Senate. We all know what happens when you toss one of your top leaders under the bus. It only makes the calls for your neck stronger.

Will Dems who have called for Rumsfeld's resignation be satisfied? Not likely. Many of these folks have also demanded Secretary of State Rice resign. And have threatened Vice President Cheney with charges of war crimes and President Bush with impeachment.

Former CIA Director Robert Gates has been selected as his replacement (bio on Wikipedia).

Can you imagine the confirmation hearings for Gates in a Senate controlled by Democrats? It will make the fight over judicial nominees look like a cake walk.

The President closed his opening remarks with a message to "our enemies:" Do not be joyful. To the people of Iraq: "Do not be fearful." To our troops: "Do not be doubtful." With Democrats in charge, our enemies ARE joyful, Iraqis ARE fearful and our troops ARE doubtful.

And the President went on to retool his "new tone" strategy that has worked so well in the past. He described a "A new era of cooperation." Yep, we cooperate while Democrats gut the economy, surrender in the war and use the power of majority to criminalize Republican political speech.

President Bush repeated the words "a fresh perspective." I agreee.

Time to kick the "new tone" strategy to the curb and select fresh leadership, not in the Defense Department, but in the House and Senate who are prepared to take the fight to our enemies, both foreign and domestic.
