In yet another sad signal that we're returning to the bad old days when American diplomats smiled and made nice while the UN coddled dictators and stole our money Ambassador John Bolton has announced that he will not seek Senate confirmation for the remainder of President Bush's term.
His recess appointment expires soon, and there was no way a Senate controlled by Democrats would allow his nomination to move forward, even though it was clear Bolton had support of the majority of Senators.
During his brief time in office, he showed himself to be extremely effective in insisting the UN live up to the high words and lofty phrases which pepper the flawed organization's founding documents.
No doubt Democrats will insist President Bush nominate another ostrich willing to put his head in the sand rather than tackle the difficult job of reforming the UN.
