His strong voice on human rights has made an icon of the old left and he won the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts. His foundation's web site is here.
But today the far left is losing the mooring of concern they once held for human rights. Men and women like Wiesel must be discredited in this world where confusion and chaos are the tools to radical social change.
So it should not surprise anyone that a holocaust denier would assault and attempt to kidnap Elie Wiesel.
The lunatic who did this goes by the name of Eric Hunt and writes about his motives at ZioPedia, a rabid anti-Semitic web site.
Hunt goes so far as to say that "The sickening fact is that the poison gas the Jews claim was used to murder them was actually used to save their lives." Sickening it is!
The rest of the offerings on this site won't surprise anyone. We've heard it all before. The holocaust never happened, "torture" at the terrorist detention facility at Guantanamo is the worst thing that ever happened to anyone, Jews killed and mutilated Christians for religious rituals. The Palestinians can do no wrong. September 11th was a hoax. The Jews are to blame for the U.S. war in Iraq and on and on and on.
Sick, sick, sick.
Why do they believe this crap?
In order for them to usher in their version of a lefty utopia they must destroy all objective standards of right and wrong, good and evil. This isn't difficult for their followers as most of them surrendered any intellectual and moral integrity they had long ago.
And of course they even get help from Democrats like Asst. Senate Leader Dick Durbin of Illinois who on the floor of the United States Senate compared our troops to " Nazis, Soviets in their gulags, or some mad regime -- Pol Pot or others -- that had no concern for human beings."
It's a mindset that attempts to erase the history of evil in this world and prevent those who have learned the lesson from the past of preventing evil in the future. They find many adherents in those who have no anchor in reality. They would excuse mass murder, genocide, even use of atomic weapons against Israel or the United States. In their minds, we deserve it.
Sick, really, really sick.
When Elie Wiesel accepted the Nobel Peace Prize in December 1986, he addressed these words to us all:
"We must take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented. Sometimes we must interfere. When human lives are endangered, when human dignity is in jeopardy, national borders and sensitivities become irrelevant. Wherever men and women are persecuted because of their race, religion, or political views, that place must - at that moment - become the center of the universe."
And yet, the pacifists would do nothing, the holocaust & 9/11 deniers would do nothing even when the wolf is at the door. In truth, they ARE the wolf.
