Key House Democrats plan to insist the Pentagon shut down the detention camp at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and are contemplating the relocation of many of the 385 or so remaining terrorist suspects to military brigs along the East Coast -- including Quantico, Va., and Charleston, S.C.

The official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said Democrats are planning hearings in April or May to "build a record" that closing Guantanamo would be beneficial and that it would be legal, as well as logistically feasible, to bring its detainees to the United States. The hearings would start with panels of lawyers, some of whom are convinced the plan is workable and some of whom represent detainees now at Guantanamo.

Not in MY Backyard
Charleston, SC is approximately 100 miles away. What kind of target does a city, a state or region become when it undertakes the responsibility to house some of the most bloodthirsty terrorists still in U.S. custody? Their fellow terrorists have sworn to seek their release, that's one reason we put these monsters at Gitmo.
By now, Democrats have already seen to it that these vicious killers get more rights than their innocent victims. So why not settle these killers in San Francisco or New York or perhaps Seattle? Why saddle the rest of us with the burden?
I'm reminded of the satirical letter from President Bush and Donald Rumsfeld to concerned citizens offering to allow captured terrorists to serve out their time in the homes of bleeding heart liberals. We can imagine that shortly it wouldn't be just the lefties heart that is bleeding.
But like everything else, the lefties want to saddle someone else with the burden of assuaging their flawed consciences.
