Sometimes our GOP Senate team scores a point or two!
Senate Republicans today blocked a measure in the Senate Energy Bill which would have dramatically hiked taxes on oil companies. Taxes on oil companies has already increased from $32 billion in 2003 to $71 billion in 2005 (the last year such data was available. State and Federal taxes already make up at least one fifth the cost of each gallon of gas you buy.
The Democrats plan would RAISE gasoline prices up to $6.00 per gallon over the next ten years.
Is it any wonder that Americans confidence in a Congress run by Democrats has reached an all time low of just 14% in the latest Gallup poll?
And what's even more laughable is how the "news" media is spinning the story. The New York Times ran a story by David Stout: "Big Oil Companies Spared Tax Hikes." The NY Times owned International Herald Tribune ran the same story under the headline: "Supporters of Big Oil score a victory in U.S. Senate."
That headline should read: The American taxpayer won a victory today. And we can thank Senate Republicans!
