Homeland Security Secretary Chertoff spoke of a "gut feeling" that Al Queda is planning attacks inside the United States this summer. He went on to say "The intent to attack us remains as strong as it was on Sept. 10, 2001" which I hasten to point out was BEFORE we invaded either Afghanistan or Iraq.
To that I would like to add that I have a "gut feeling" Democrats have surrender talking points ready to go when we are attacked! It doesn't take a crystal ball to understand that Democrats will knock themselves over on their way to a microphone the minute such an attack happens. After expressing their "heartfelt" concern for the victims they'll launch the second wave of attacks on President Bush.
"Bush has put us at greater risk..."Bush isn't keeping us safer"..."Bush's invasion of Iraq is why we were attacked..." Democrats have said as much already. And surely they'll repeat it all and then some. Meanwhile, they will wave the white flag of surrender faster than you can say "Patriot Act."
Some have suggested that should we be attacked again it would galvanize the American people behind support for more aggressive prosecution of this war. I say it is likely to do just the opposite among those who have sipped the Kool Aid of appeasement, defeat and surrender.
Defeatist Democrats, perhaps enabled by weak-kneed GOP Senators (House Minority Leader Boehner called them wimps), will likely clamor for an immediate withdrawal from Iraq. In essence they will put the U.S. into the same suicidal strategic straitjacket Spain currently finds itself in.
Readers will recall that Spain voted out the Conservative government of Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar and the Socialists who took office promptly withdrew Spanish troops from Iraq.
Still, this hasn't removed Spain as a target for attack by Al Queda. In the latest tape by Al Zawahiri Andalusia (The Islamists name for Spain) was specifically mentioned as one of the Islamic lands that Al Queda would liberate.
Perhaps the most glaring oversight in the coming call for withdrawal and defeat is the total lack of the consequences which will flow from such a move. You would think the same people who berate President Bush and former Defense Secretary Rumsfeld for lack of planning in the wake of post-Saddam Iraq would be doubly cautious about a horrendous mistake many magnitudes larger.
But everyday we have the paroxysmal parrots of pullot now squawking for withdrawal and damn the torpedoes!
These mangy moronic Magpies constantly cite Iraq as "another Vietnam" yet seem to forget the bloodbath which occurred in Vietnam after Democrats demanded a withdrawal there. If it weren't for the monstrous consequences of letting them have their way and pull U.S. forces out of Iraq I would support their call if each and every elected Democrat parroting withdrawal signed an ironclad pledge that when the worst happened they would promptly resign from office and promise never to run again.
But we all now that Democrats are never held to the same standard of accountability that they daily demand of Republicans. So the likelihood of them being held accountable for a bloodbath in Iraq is about as likely as them being held accountable for the bloodbath in Vietnam.
Until those standards are applied fairly to both sides there is no other option for Republicans than to pursue the path that leads to victory and not defeat.
Note to GOP Senate Wimps: you will be held accountable. Not by Democrats, but by GOP voters.
