Pumping out more pollutants than all the cars on the planet, the Chaiten volcano in Chile puts on quite a show!
The ash cloud from the Chaiten volcano casts a shadow across Chile, Argentina and the South Atlantic.
One benefit from the volcano is that it has the capacity to erase any global warming that MIGHT be happening by dispersing sulfur dioxide into the upper atmosphere which reflects sunlight back into space. The downside is that eventually, the sulfur dioxide will be removed by precipitation in the form of acid rain. More acid rain than every power plant burning high sulfur coal.
It's an amazing testament to the power of nature and the relatively small impact man has on the planet.
