I'm hoping that this time they do the job and are not pressured to pull back early by the same world governments that seemed indifferent to the rocket attacks Israel has endured for years.
Expect the usual false stories of Palestinian civilians massacred by Israel troops and the subsequent handwringing from those who claim to love peace but instead are the enablers of those who promulgate a cult of death.
As of now the Bush Administration continues calling for a meaningful a cease fire (one that Hamas would follow as well) and incoming President Elect Obama prefers to stay silent and let his earlier words speak for themselves:
July 23, 2008 SDEROT, Israel - Barack Obama pledged his support for Israel Wednesday while standing in front of a pile of rocket and mortar casings in a town repeatedly attacked by the Palestinian militant group Hamas. As Scott noted, Obama's current silence isn't going over well among some of his supporters.
“I am here to say as an American and as a friend of Israel that we stand with the people of Sderot and all of the people of Israel,” the Democratic U.S. presidential candidate told reporters at the town’s police station
Obama had a similar view. “If somebody was sending rockets into my house where my two daughters sleep at night, I’m going to do everything in my power to stop that,” he said. “And I would expect Israelis to do the same thing.”
Since every diplomatic option under the sun has been tried repeatedly over the years in an effort to solve this problem I don't hold out much hope that an effective one will be found this time. Far better to let the military option play out and force Hamas to recognize the cost of continuing to violate or ignore every agreement meant to facilitate peace.
After all, we are dealing with an ideology that is nothing more than a cult of death. And one that brainwashes it's children to hate:
"It is the time of death."
You don't negotiate with such evil. You defeat it!
