It's a sad day for Arizona and the United States as a deranged gunman shot and seriously wounded Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) and fired into the crowd hitting multiple persons. The gunman, Jared Loughner, is apparently a disturbed individual with bizarre statements on various web sites the first hint of the psychosis that drove him to this massacre. As of 6 PM EST Saturday, news from the hospital where Rep. Giffords is undergoing surgery is that she will live but no other details are available about her condition.
House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) released the following statement:
“I am horrified by the senseless attack on Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and members of her staff. An attack on one who serves is an attack on all who serve. Acts and threats of violence against public officials have no place in our society. Our prayers are with Congresswoman Giffords, her staff, all who were injured, and their families. This is a sad day for our country."
Rep. Giffords is widely respected in Arizona by many on both the left and the right. She styles herself as a Blue Dog Democrat and takes rather more conservative positions on border security, illegal immigration and federal spending than most Democrats in the U.S. House.
Not the time for politics unless you are a Daily Kos reader!
Today isn't a day for politics, nor to use this tragedy to score political points. I was rather disappointed, though not surprised, by the disgraceful way in which the Daily Kos blog attempted to link this shooting with Sarah Palin who had targeted Giffords for defeat in last year's election.
This is the time for everyone in this country to put aside political views and grieve for the families and send our prayers and thoughts for the deceased and the loved ones of those killed and for Rep. Giffords and those wounded who may still struggle for life.

Like the new design. Speaking of design, perhaps the DNC should look to their official logo as an incendiary message.
It's not the new design but a temporary placecard.... Not the best way to do a transition but I didn't think anyone would notice.
