Anyone with half a brain knew that the attempt to derail Trump's restrictions on immigration from a handful of Muslim and other countries was entirely appropriate and within the clear constitutional powers of his office. The left went judge shopping and attempted to derail a legitimate immigration policy by ignoring the Constitution and making up law. They claimed that Trump's campaign statements about Muslims meant his policy was biased but to do so, they ignored the actual policy. Trump's order was NOT a Muslim ban and did not include all Muslim majority countries. And if Presidents are to be held accountable for their campaign rhetoric then ObamaCare surely would be overturned for the big lie "if you like your plan you can keep it."
The majority on the court ruled 5-4 that the travel ban "The President has lawfully exercised the broad discretion granted to him " and "is squarely within the scope of Presidential authority." The decision went on to describe that existing law shows "deference to the President in every clause. It entrusts to the President the decisions whether and when to suspend entry, whose entry to suspend, for how long, and on what conditions. It thus vests the President with “ample power” to impose entry restrictions."
Continuing: "The admission and exclusion of foreign nationals is a “fundamental sovereign attribute exercised by the Government’s political departments largely immune from judicial control."
