So, when the preposterous charge that Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh was part of a rape ring in high school where he drugged and raped young girls "Spartacus" Sen. Cory Booker said that Kavanaugh must withdraw just because of the charges true or not.
Of course everyone including Booker must have known the charges were not true. Certainly NBC, which ran the original story knew. And they didn't tell anyone until last week. Only then did NBC run a report titled "New questions raised about Avenatti claims regarding Kavanaugh." The thing is, these were NOT new questions.
From the report:
Referring to Kavanaugh spiking the punch, “I didn’t ever think it was Brett,” the woman said to reporters in a phone interview arranged by Avenatti on Sept. 30 after repeated requests to speak with other witnesses who might corroborate Swetnick’s claims.NONE of this was in NBC's original sensationalist report that was embraced by liars like Spartacus Booker.
...
When asked in the phone interview if she ever witnessed Kavanaugh act inappropriately towards girls, the woman replied, “no.”
...
[R]eached by phone independently from Avenatti on Oct. 3, the woman said she only “skimmed” the declaration. After reviewing the statement, she wrote in a text on Oct. 4 to NBC News: “It is incorrect that I saw Brett spike the punch. I didn’t see anyone spike the punch…I was very clear with Michael Avenatti from day one.”
When pressed about abusive behavior towards girls, she wrote in a text: “I would not ever allow anyone to be abusive in my presence. Male or female.”
In an era where Trump is blamed for violent rhetoric will those who lecture him be held accountable for inflaming the public discourse with obvious lies? Don't hold your breath. Like civility, accountability is a one way street!
