Mike's America Year in Review: August-September 2005

August 2005: Muther Sheehan Mania

Mike's America for August 2005 started off with some good news. President Bush had finally had enough of Democrat's obstruction of John Bolton to be our Ambassador in the U.S. Senate. Bolton's recess appointment was a smackdown to those who think a UN drowning in corruption and totally devoid of the moral clarity necessary to carry out it's mission is a good idea.

Bolton is our man, he's on the job and by all accounts has been a surprising success. Will be confirmed for a full term? Stay tuned.

Culture of Corruption: Liberals Loot Children and Alzheimer's Charity for Air America Propaganda

Just as House MINORITY Leader Nancy Pelosi, and Senate MINORITY Leader Harry Reid were ramping up their "culture of corruption" rhetoric and trying their best to drum up political prosecutions of House MAJORITY Leader Tom Delay and White House aide Karl Rove, their friends at Air America were busy looting charities in New York for children and Alzheimers programs to stay on the air with their unrelenting stream of negativity and hatred for President Bush.

Eminent Domain Abuse became a huge issue in 2005 with the Supreme Court decision favoring local government over the rights of citizens in the Kelo vs. New London case. At the end of July, good old Howard Dean stepped in it once again claiming that the decision was the result of "The president and his right-wing Supreme Court think it is 'okay' to have the government take your house if they feel like putting a hotel where your house is," Funny how it was the conservative and Republican appointed justices on the court that opposed this decision. Funnier still, that President Bush had yet to get Robert's, his first nominee for the Supreme Court confirmed. Is truth even relevant to people still struggling with the meaning of the word "is?"

Alabama was one of the first states to pass legislation outlawing the use of eminent domain for commercial purposes. We've yet to see other states follow suit.

Bush: A Man of Caring and Compassion

As the toxic clouds of Sheehan mania gathered on the plains of Texas, it was important to remind Mike's America readers of the real heart and soul of the man who leads us in times of war. President Bush was on a campaign stop outside the Golden Lamb Inn in Lebanon, Ohio. At the same stop was Lynn Faulkner, his daughter, Ashley, and their neighbor, Linda Prince. Faulkners wife, Ashley's mother, died in the September 11th atrocities.

As he past throughout he crowd with his usual good cheer, neighbor Prince said "This girl lost her mom in the World Trade Center on 9-11." President Bush stopped, turned back and embraced the young girl, as her father snapped the photograph. "'How are you doing?' Mr. Bush asked as he reached out with his hand and pulled her close to him. "'I'm OK." she said. The President added: "'I can see you have a father who loves you very much."

Later, Ashley described the experience this way: "The way he was holding me, with my head against his chest, it felt like he was trying to protect me," Ashley said. "I thought, 'Here is the most powerful guy in the world, and he wants to make sure I'm safe.'

The Two Faces of Cindy Sheehan

Cindy Sheehan, before fame, spoke of her families meeting with President Bush this way:"That was the gift the president gave us, the gift of happiness, of being together."

and later: "he acted like it was a party...Yes, he came in very jovial and like we should be happy that he, our son, died for his misguided policies."

Slight discrepancy there wouldn't you say?

As Sheehan mania gripped the media, a rare statement from other family members went nearly unnoticed:

The Sheehan Family lost our beloved Casey in the Iraq War and we have been silently, respectfully grieving. We do not agree with the political motivations and publicity tactics of Cindy Sheehan. She now appears to be promoting her own personal agenda and notoriety at the expense of her son's good name and reputation. The rest of the Sheehan Family supports the troops, our country, and our President, silently, with prayer and respect.

Sincerely,

Casey Sheehan's grandparents, aunts, uncles and numerous cousins.
But apparently, Muther Sheehan knows a good thing when she sees one. While she was busy with the first part of her "Bush is to blame for my dead son" tour, workers with volunteer labor and material were busy remodeling her home in Vacaville, California. A kind gesture to be sure, and we dare not ask if they provided a similar service to all those who have lost loved ones in Iraq and elsewhere. Neither should we express our concern when she puts the house up for sale scant months later and moves to Berkeley, California, farther from the survivors of her wonderful family she claims to love so much.

Sheehan's husband filed for divorce shortly after and it soon became apparent to even the most committed Bush hater that Muther Sheehan cared more for publicity, than for her surviving family members. The "mainstream" media continued to glorify her sacrifice and her mission outside President Bush's ranch, but as we began to learn more about this woman's beliefs and she continued to speak, she continued to demonstrate that she represents nothing more than a very vocal and extremely anti-American point of view.

Here's a recap: The Worst of Witch Sheehan:

  • "This country is not worth dying for" Sheehan said at an April rally for Lynne Stewart, convicted of providing material aide to terrorists in New York.
  • Echoing the statement by Al Queda #2, Ayman Zawahiri: "You get America out of Iraq and Israel out of Palestine and you'll stop the terrorism." And if you look at the map of what she calls "Palestine" it is ALL of Israel.
  • In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, Sheewitch rushed to get her "Impeachment Tour" Bus down to the scene where she proclaimed: "Pull our troops out of occupied New Orleans and Iraq, and excuse his self from power. "
  • Later, as Hurricane Rita again ravaged the area, she complained that "I am watching cnn and it is 100 percent rita...even though it is a little wind and a little rain...it is bad, but there are other things going on in this country today...and in the world!!!!"
  • And the lowest of the low: When a veteran of Iraq, also a woman and nine months pregnant with the baby of her fallen soldier husband dared to question the Sheewitch at a New York appearance: "Your baby is going to be fatherless for a lie."

"Your baby is going to be fatherless for a lie" is the "Absolute Moral Authority" that the anti-American left anointed on Muther Sheehan. It's the same moral authority that allowed them to use the names of fallen soldiers on their protest of crosses, without and in some cases in DIRECT CONTRADICTION to the wishes of the fallen soldiers family.

This same "moral authority" emboldened protestors standing outside Walter Reed Hospital which treats injured soldiers; along with signs "Maimed for Halliburton" and "Died for a Lie" and displaying rows of fake caskets. One protestor, who never served in the military, presumed to speak in their name: "if I couldn't get out of my bed and protest myself, I would want someone else to do it in my name"

Speaking Truth to Whackos:

Muther Sheehan and the "anti-war" (really just anti-American, they support wars when waged by their socialist comrades) left continued to feign their horror at the still tragic, but relatively few deaths in the Iraq war, many who suffered under the real evil of Saddam's nightmare began to get their stories out.

In an Iraqi prison under Hussein:"This is when they brought out his wife, who was five months pregnant. One of the guards said that if he refused to talk he would get 12 guards to rape his wife until she lost the baby. Amer said nothing. So they did. We were forced to watch. Whenever one of us cast down his eyes, they would beat us."

"Amer's wife didn't lose the baby. So the guard took a knife, cut her belly open and took the baby out with his hands. The woman and child died minutes later. Then the guard used the same knife to cut Amer's throat."
And the frat party at Abu Ghraib reminded Senator Durbin of Nazis and gulags?

And this:

[W]hat was found at Hatra shows how the Hussein leadership made a "business of killing people" - the scrape marks from the blade of the bulldozer that shoved victims into the trench, the point-blank shots to the backs of even the babies' heads, the withered body of a 3- or 4-year-old boy, still clutching a red and white ball.
...
Michael K. Trimble, an archaeologist who headed the forensics team, said the first surprise was that the trench held only women and children - about 300 in all. He said two-thirds were children.

The bodies were stacked haphazardly in four or five layers. Nearly all had a single .22-caliber pistol shot behind one ear.
And finally, when it comes to a right to be heard, the voices of veterans should command as much if not more attention than the pack of professional America haters. Here's the voice of a man who served in the military, as did his twin brother who died in Iraq. Listen to the audio of his statement here. He asks: "When the wolf comes knocking at your door, who are you going to call? Cindy Sheehan and the Pink Ladies?"

By the time Thanksgiving rolled around, Americans did have something to be thankful for: The orgy of anti-Americanism and defeat was just about over. Bye Bye Sheewitch, we wont' miss you!

A Memorial at Ground Zero?

The controversy over a New York memorial continued to swirl in September. Remembering the heroism and sacrifice of those like the death of the fireman's Chaplain, Father Mycal Judge, is reminiscent of the Pietas that symbolize the sacrifice of Christ. If you want to relive and remember those sad days, this flash presentation put together shortly after the atrocities is still one of the best.
While denial of the reality of this day continues to cloud the judgement of many in this country, there is help for those not invested in defeat. Questions continue to swirl about the work done by the 9/11 Commission and what we knew about terrorists before the attacks. In one of my few long form posts this year, I ask the question: "Who is Ramzi Yousef ?and Why You Should Care."
As scream headlines continue to question the propriety of spying on communications inside the United States, ask yourself: Could we not have prevented September 11th if the programs protecting us these past five years had been implemented in the 1990's?

Hurricane Hysteria: All Part of the Blame Bush Plan!
No need to rehash the entire sad episode of hysteria surrounding Hurricane Katrina. By now, anyone with half a mind knows that the one way fingerpointing and superdome hyped hysteria was all part of an unfortunate disinformation campaign with underlying political motivations.
But for the sake of history, let's just reflect on two images, the first from New Orleans and Hurricane Katrina, the second from Hurricane Rita and Galveston, Texas:

New Orleans, Louisiana (Katrina)

Galveston, Texas (Rita)
New Orleans failed to follow their own disaster plan. They had no backup power for police communications, no plan to provide relief to trapped citizens. A state government paralyzed by incompetence and corruption.
Neighboring Mississippi which was also hard hit by Katrina saw few of these difficulties. Texas during Rita also seemed to get it's act together, all the while providing shelter for tens of thousands of New Orleans evacuees.
The difference between Texas and Mississippi and Louisiana? Who was in charge?
