The following is a guest contribution by Jonathon Levy:
The Vatican and the Muslim world may have some common some traits revealed by the recent Danish Muhammad cartoon fiasco: both seem to have selective values and memory tinged by a certain hypocrisy. But in the case of the Vatican geo-politics may be at work too.
Therefore it is not surprising that the Vatican has condemned the relatively mild Danish cartoons of Muhammad while making common cause with Hamas and the mad mullahs of the Muslim world. The heck with freedom of the press, it is not a Vatican value apparently.
According to Zenit, the official Vatican press agency:
The Holy See condemned the publication of caricatures of Mohammed in the Western press, as well as the violent reaction of the Muslim world.
Condemned is strong wording, let’s make no mistake about that. It means the Catholic Church, the self described voice of God on Earth, says no disrespect to Muhammad is permitted even if you find Islamic values repugnant. Hold your tongue because you are as bad as radical Islamic terrorists if you dare criticize the Islamic world’s well documented penchant to murder infidels, suicide bombings, beheadings, treatment of women as chattel, slavery not to mention lack of respect for other folk’s values.
Odd the Vatican is so concerned about Muhammad while Muslims go on the rampage worldwide with an anti Christian animus? Aren’t those Christian crosses on the Danish and Norwegian flags that even moderate Muslims by the tens of thousands so gleefully spit upon and trample under foot? But do not dare defile a Koran or face death infidel?
Could all this have to do with Vatican ambitions in Palestine where they have long sought sovereignty over certain Holy Sites? Also, the Vatican can surely sympathize with the much maligned Muhammad, after all do they not face “false allegations” too of institutionalized sexual abuse of children and money laundering at the Vatican Bank?
