Why Did Bill Clinton Make Unethical Approach to Attorney General Lynch

He knew, as well as she did, that the contact was highly improper.

One thing you can say about Bill Clinton is that he's not an idiot. He knows what he is doing. So, when, as reported, he went out of his way to push onto the plane arriving with U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch in Phoenix earlier in the week he knew exactly what he was doing. His wife Hillary was about to be interviewed by the FBI in regard to email scandal and what better way to send a signal than to get chummy with the head of the Justice Department which oversees the FBI?

A.G. Lynch described the meeting as "primarily" social. But as John Kass at the Chicago Tribune points out "You could drive a fleet of dump trucks through "primarily."...But then I guess it all depends on what your definition of primarily is." A wink and a nod from Bill and a question about what Lynch might do in the future is all it would take.

Michael Goodwin reminds us that it was Bill Clinton who first elevated Loretta Lynch to a high government position which ultimately led to her becoming Attorney General.

Even Democrats found the meeting troublesome. Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.) who sits on the Senate Judiciary Committee which oversees DOJ and the FBI said: "I do think that this meeting sends the wrong signal." What was that signal?

Former Department of Justice lawyer J. Christian Adams writes
The tarmac summit sent a signal. It is a signal to all of the hardworking FBI agents who have the goods on Hillary. The attorney general has made it clear what team she is on. The attorney general isn’t on the side of justice. She’s on the Democratic Party team.

This is the unspoken message from Lynch to all of the FBI agents on the case and to all the front-line lawyers at the Justice Department: When you send your recommendation to refer Hillary’s case to the grand jury, you had better realize your burden to convince me I should sign off on a grand-jury request is higher than you thought. These are my friends. This is standard operating procedure in the Obama Justice Department.
Writing at the Washington Post columnist Dan Balz opined that Bill acted out of "foolish indifference or plain foolishness." I disagree. He knew exactly what he was doing. Conspiracy theorists might argue he secretly wants to sabotage his wife's presidential ambitions. But why? The Clintons are raking in millions for their foundation/slush fund based on the idea she might be in a position to repay those who contribute such massive sums.

My thought is that Bill knows that any respectable Attorney General would have to not only recuse him or herself from the investigation but they would be compelled to appoint a special prosecutor to avoid any appearance of impropriety. Appointing a special prosecutor is something Republicans have long demanded  but now, this late in the electoral game, it would mean the investigation would start from scratch and continue well past the November election.

Hillary Clinton must be in real trouble for Bill to pull this one!

But Bill Clinton may have miscalculated. Special prosecutors are forbidden in Obama world. Only Republican presidents are held to that standard of accountability. Otherwise we would already have special prosecutors looking into Fast and Furious, the IRS scandal and of course Hillary Clinton's emails and the Clinton Foundation pay for play scandal.

If Loretta Lynch had been a regular FBI Agent meeting in a "primarily social" setting  with a potential target of an investigation she would be fired. But here again, the same rules do not apply to elites in the Obama Administration. After all, Lois Lerner at the IRS was never even charged for her crimes!
