A bombshell statement from House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes. Press conference follows:
NUNES:During the press conference Nunes revealed that the identity of Trump transition officials had been "unmasked" which is directly contradictory to the law protecting the identity of Americans in "incidental" collection of intelligence. That is a violation of law.
· I recently confirmed that, on numerous occasions, the Intelligence Community incidentally collected information about U.S. citizens involved in the Trump transition.
· Details about U.S. persons associated with the incoming administration—details with little or no apparent foreign intelligence value—were widely disseminated in intelligence community reporting.
· I have confirmed that additional names of Trump transition team members were unmasked.
· To be clear, none of this surveillance was related to Russia or any investigation of Russian activities or of the Trump team.
In a response to this bombshell by Democrat Adam Schiff, the ranking Democrat on the Intelligence Committee, his concern wasn't for the clear violation of law highlighted by Chairman Nunes but a disappointment that this gets in the way of the Democrat's transparent attempt to create a scandal where none exists in regard to Trump's Russia ties.
Trump was right about Obama surveillance. How far it went and how many laws were broken remain to be seen. But one thing we know: Democrats will do whatever they can to obfuscate the issue and protect whoever broke the law in service to their partisan political plans!
