That's what they said about him in 2008!
You know what they say about President Trump. He's a racist who gives a "dogwhistle" to his racist supporters. Another white supremacist! Of course they never said that about Trump in all the years he was a public figure. Only when he ran for President. Sort of like John McCain.
McCain was every Democrat's favorite Republican when he was criticizing President Bush. But when he ran for office, suddenly he was a racist. Do they just make this stuff up about every Republican? If you think that, you're catching on!
The Daily Caller dredged up what Dems were saying about McCain in 2008 and it's not the high praise being heaped on him at his funeral on Saturday. Dems openly called him a racist and civil rights self proclaimed icon Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) wrote "As public figures with the power to influence and persuade, Sen. McCain and Gov. Palin are playing with fire, and if they are not careful, that fire will consume us all." Sound familiar? Lewis went on to compare McCain to segregationist George Wallace. They didn't even try that with Trump!
Of course now Rep. Lewis is singing a different tune. He calls McCain a "great warrior who defended this nation’s honor" and "one of those rare people who was never afraid to do what he believed was right."
It's hard to square the statements of the past and today. Are Dems really honoring a racist and forgetting his past? Or were their original attacks on McCain, just as they are on Trump, based solely on politics and an attempt to divide Americans based on race to win an election? We know the answer.
