What Next for Niki? Surprise Resignation Spurs Speculation in DC and South Carolina

You don't hold an Oval Office goodbye ceremony for nothing!

Usually when an official resigns it's a written statement accompanied perhaps with a few remarks from the agency where they work. Instead, Trump invited Halley to the Oval Office for a sit down. Watch the body language between the two here.  Amb. Halley gives Trump a heartfelt summation of what Trump foreign policy is achieving:

What she says about the Trump family is even more incredible! Here's an excerpt of her remarks:
AMB. HALLEY: Look at what has happened in two years with the United States on foreign policy. Now, the United States is respected. Countries may not like what we do, but they respect what we do. They know that if we say we’re going to do something, we follow it through. And the President proved that — whether it was with the chemical weapons in Syria; whether it’s with NATO — saying that other countries have to pay their share; I mean, whether it’s the trade deals, which has been amazing. They get that the President means business, and they follow through with that.

But then if you look at just these two years at the U.N., we cut $1.3 billion in the U.N.’s budget. We’ve made it stronger. We’ve made it more efficient.
...
ou know, all of those things have made a huge difference in the U.S. standing. But I can tell you that it’s — the U.S. is strong again. And the U.S. is strong in a way that should make all Americans very proud.

And I do want to say that it’s not just the President I want to thank. The family in general — the First Lady has been nothing but very, very kind to me.

I can’t say enough good things about Jared and Ivanka. Jared is such a hidden genius that no one understands. I mean, to re-do the NAFTA deal the way he did. What I’ve done working with him on the Middle East Peace Plan — it is so unbelievably well done.

And Ivanka has been just a great friend. And they do a lot of things behind the scenes that I wish more people knew about because we’re a better country because they’re in this administration.
Ambassador Haley was a central figure in U.S. efforts for sanctions on Russia, Iran, North Korea and has been an outspoken advocate on behalf of the American people at the United Nations. With her resignation, news sites have been compiling lists such as this one from the Washington Examiner with video of her finest moments at the UN. I loved it when she told the Russian Ambassador "I'm in awe, Vasily, of how you say what you say with a straight face."

But my favorite, not on the list above, came after President Trump officially moved the U.S. embassy in Israel to Jerusalem. Halley took to the floor of the UN General Assembly and laid down a clear warning:

AMB. HALLEY: The United States will remember this day in which it was singled out for attack in the General Assembly for the very act of exercising our right as a sovereign nation. We will remember it when we are called upon to once again make the world’s largest contribution to the United Nations. And we will remember it when so many countries come calling on us, as they so often do, to pay even more and to use our influence for their benefit.

America will put our embassy in Jerusalem. That is what the American people want us to do, and it is the right thing to do. No vote in the United Nations will make any difference on that.

But this vote will make a difference on how Americans look at the UN and on how we look at countries who disrespect us in the UN. And this vote will be remembered.
Citing her years as Governor of South Carolina and nearly two years as UN Ambassador Halley says she needs some time off with her family. One can understand that. But at the same time many look forward to her return to government in an equally or more important job. President Trump made it clear she could "have her pick" of any future job in the Trump Administration.

And Halley promises that for the immediate future she will be devoted to supporting President Trump and working towards his re-election in 2020.

Those who value strong, COMPETENT women in government will miss her and long for her return!
