Where was Obama?
It's official, the month of October 2008 saw the lowest death rate of U.S. troops in Iraq for any month since the war began.
Meanwhile, the murder rate in Obama's home town, Chicago, already the highest in the nation, continues to climb. The murder toll in Chicago for 2008 is 426, which exceeds the U.S. death toll in Iraq for 2008 by 144.
After decades of liberal control with massive federal spending the problem in Chicago just gets worse and worse.
Is this the kind of "change" Obama would bring to the entire nation?
The reality is that liberal/socialist rule fails miserably every time it is tried. The reason is that serving the public good has always been less important to liberal politicians than serving themselves first and last!
Change, change, change... that's all YOU will have left...
Put aside for a moment the fact that Obama and Biden's definition of "rich" has slowly crept down from those who make $300,000 to $250,000 to $200,000 to $150,000.
And Friday, New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson, an Obama campaign surrogate, declared the figure to be $120,000. If Obama and Biden are elected who knows how low the figure will be by the time they are inaugurated?
Obama promised to "spread the wealth" and soak the rich while promising an array of goodies to 95% of Americans whether they pay income taxes or not. But there is a contradiction here. Readers will recall that Joe Biden said it's "patriotic" to pay higher taxes. Today, Obama said that "selfishness" motivated those who oppose the higher taxes necessary to fuel his socialist revolution.
Are Obama and Biden suggesting that those they exempt from any responsibility to pay for Obama's massive government expansion are selfish and unpatriotic?
How long will it be before the middle class is called on to make the same patriotic sacrifice?

US election: If Iraqis could vote it would be for McCainThey did manage to find a few Obama supporters, but it's clear the majority in this unscientific survey were McCainiacs.
Agence France Presse
October 30, 2008
For five years Ali and Mohammed have lived alongside US soldiers in their Baghdad neighbourhood near Rasheed Street, a prominent commercial artery running through the heart of the Iraqi capital.
During that time American culture and politics have become familiar to them, and they say that if they could, they would vote for Republican candidate John McCain in next week's US presidential election.
"McCain would be best for Iraq because he would ensure stability," said Ali, 66, an expert on the Sumerian era.
The personal qualities and political platforms of McCain and his Democrat rival Barack Obama are of little import to Ali, however. His focus is on Iraq and its neighbours such as Iran.
"The Iranians believe that if Obama is elected he will not take action against them despite their nuclear ambitions. That worries me," said Ali, sitting on an old bench in Al-Zahawi coffee shop.
"If the Iranians get the bomb they will become the Tarzan of the region," said the former teacher and lecturer at the University of Baghdad, referring to the vine-swinging strongman of the jungle in old Hollywood movies.
Mohammed, also a professor at the university, said he too preferred McCain "because Obama supports a rapid withdrawal of US troops."
"Our army is still too weak and Turkey and Iran are threats. Iran's President (Mahmoud) Ahmadinejad has warned Iran would fill the void left when US troops depart," he said.
"I trust the Republicans more. They're more capable of establishing democracy in the world, especially in Arab countries," said Whamith Shadhan,a 33-year-old government official . "Obama is far too left."
The Iraqis seem to understand the reality of the situation so much better than Obama.
Too bad we can't make Iraq a state!
"My Bible tells me there is nothing wrong with helping other people, that we want to treat others like we want to be treated. That I am my brother's keeper, and I am my sister's keeper. I believe that."--Barack Hussein Obama, October 29, 2008
" If Jane or Zeituni ever felt ill, if their companies ever closed or laid them off, there was no government safety net. There was only family, next of kin, people burdened by similar hardship. Now I was family, I reminded myself. Now I had responsibilities." -- Barack Hussein Obama from "Dreams of my Fathers"
First we learned that Obama's half brother George Hussein Onyango Obama survives in squalor in Kenya, Africa on less than $1 a month. Now we learn that closer to home, Obama has an aunt who lives in a slum in Boston.
It's not surprising that Obama, who has made millions selling his books, hasn't done more to help his own family. After all, both Obama and Biden gave a pittance to charity and only started to give more as they began to campaign for higher office. Meanwhile, both McCain and Palin have been exceedingly generous with their incomes.
Obama and Biden want to be generous with YOUR money at the same time they leave their family members to live in dire poverty.

Qaeda wants Republicans, Bush "humiliated"
Thu Oct 30, 2008 1:52pm EDT
DUBAI (Reuters) - An al Qaeda leader has called for President George W. Bush and the Republicans to be "humiliated," without endorsing any party in the upcoming U.S. presidential election, according to a video posted on the Internet.
"O God, humiliate Bush and his party, O Lord of the Worlds, degrade and defy him," Abu Yahya al-Libi said at the end of sermon marking the Muslim feast of Eid al-Fitr, in a video posted on the Internet.
Libi, one of the top al Qaeda commanders believed to be living in Afghanistan or Pakistan, called for God's wrath to be brought against Bush equating him with past tyrants in history.
The remarks were the first comments from a leading al Qaeda figure referring, albeit indirectly, to the U.S. elections. Muslim clerics often end sermons by calling on God to guide and support Muslims and help defeat their enemies.

Readers may recall that after Joe the Plumbers name came up in the third McCain/Obama debate a curious thing happened in Ohio. State computers housing sensitive and highly confidential information on state residents were searched to find information on Joe the Plumber. This happened at the same time the "news" media were running stories spreading dirt on Joe.
While the investigation continues, we now know that one state worker, Helen Jones-Kelley, the head of Ohio's Head of Job and Family Services, ordered a search of records for any possible outstanding child support owed by Joe. Odd since his 13 year old son lives with him and was playing football on the lawn with Joe when Obama dropped in.
But perhaps this explains it: Helen Jones-Kelley has contributed the maximum legal amount to Obama's campaign.
Was Jones-Kelley planning to leak any damaging information to the press or did she just intend to punish Joe if it was discovered he was a deadbeat Dad (he's not).
How many Democrat deadbeat Dads are avoiding their financial obligation to Ohio's children because Jones-Kelley is busy playing politics?
And where are the Democrats who screamed about Bush "spying" on Americans when we have a REAL case of infringement of civil liberties?

William Bradford was one of the leaders of that group of persons we call "The Pilgrims." They settled in what is now Massachusetts in 1620 after a long and perilous sea voyage. Bradford became Governor, a post in which he served off and on for over 30 years. He completed "History of Plymouth Plantation" in 1650 (text here).
The first months after their arrival half the Pilgrims died of disease, starvation or exposure to the elements. At first, they banded together to share the fruits of labor equally among themselves. Here's Bradford's report of the success of the collective "redistributive" approach:
The experience that was had in this common course and condition, tried sundry years and that amongst godly and sober men, may well evince the vanity of that conceit of Plato's and other ancients applauded by some of later times; and that the taking away of property and bringing in community into a commonwealth would make them happy and flourishing; as if they were wiser than God. For this community (so far as it was) was found to breed much confusion and discontent and retard much employment that would have been to their benefit and comfort. For the young men, that were most able and fit for labor and service, did repine that they should spend their time and strength to work for other men's wives and children without any recompense. The strong, or man of parts, had no more in division of victuals and clothes than he that was weak and not able to do a quarter the other could; this was thought injustice. The aged and graver men to be ranked and equalized in labors and victuals, clothes etc., with the meaner and younger sort, thought it some indignity and disrespect unto them. And for men's wives to be commanded to do service for other men, as dressing their meat, washing their clothes, etc., they deemed it a kind of slavery, neither could many husbands well brook it.Three years later "after much debate of things" they decided to try things differently and let everyone work the land for themselves:
This had very good success, for it made all hands very industrious, so as much more corn was planted than otherwise would have been by any means the Governor or any other could use, and saved him a great deal of trouble, and gave far better content. The women now went willingly into the field, and took their little ones with them to set corn; which before would allege weakness and inability; whom to have compelled would have been thought great tyranny and oppression. The lesson here: socialist "redistributive" policies "breed much confusion and discontent and retard much employment." Labor free to reap it's own reward provides an abundance for all to enjoy!
Don't be a turkey and vote for socialism! You might end up starving!
- What happened the last time a country was ruled by one party which had total control of the Executive Branch, the Legislative Branch and the Judicial Branch of government?
- What happened the last time one party dominated the "news" reporting apparatus of a country?
- What happened the last time one party controlled the film industry, the arts and dramatic industry and academia of a country?
- What happened the last time a one party state used secret police to investigate political dissenters?

In West Hollywood, California an effigy of Sarah Palin hangs from a roof of a residential home. "I know if we had done it with Barack Obama, people would've probably thrown things through our windows," said the homeowner.
So why is it O.K. to hang Republicans like Sarah Palin (President Bush and U.S. soldiers have also been targets)?
How many days of media outrage did we see ginned up over the phony report that someone at a McCain rally shouted "kill him" in regard to Obama? Obama even brought it up in the debates. And yet violence towards Republicans is treated as a joke... something to laugh at.
It was wrong when someone hung a cardboard Obama in effigy in Oregon. But it's equally wrong when someone hangs Sarah Palin in California. But if the left can't see that, then they have no right to get all worked up about it when someone does it to Obama.
Either the standards condemning violent displays towards one group are applied to all or they apply not at all.
Redistribution of wealth can be an appealing idea when the have lesses (there are so few have nots in this country) look at the have mores and are envious of their material success.
They think to themselves, "why, it's only fair that the rich folks share the wealth" and so the have lesses vote for candidates who promise to give them more (they are already getting a bundle) of someone else's money.
Sadly, they fail to realize that by so doing, they are undermining the very system which has permitted their average productive effort to achieve the status and prosperity they currently enjoy. And their opportunity to climb the ladder to the next rung is greatly diminished.
Protection of private property is the foundation upon which our capitalist system has been built and that system remains the envy of the world. If you don't believe me, just ask an illegal alien. If you undermine the protection of private property, you undermine the ability to create new wealth. And it is new wealth that is spread around much more efficiently by free markets than by government.
It's no secret that our major western allies and trading partners have substantially higher unemployment rates than does the United States. It goes hand in hand with higher levels of taxation in those countries. Spreading the wealth around in countries with a more socialist form of government has made it more difficult to spread prosperity and opportunity. It makes few people's lives better and makes many more worse.
And once you go down that road, there is no turning back. Creating a massive new system of entitlements such as Obama has proposed will make an even larger class of persons dependent on the wealth of others for whatever meager existence the government is able to permit with dwindling resources as the creation of new wealth is inhibited.
There is an enormous amount of wealth in this country. Enough to give everyone living here a really good party for a short while. But after we consume the leftovers from that meal what next? Social upheaval is sure to follow.
There is one proven path to greater opportunity and more wealth for all and it's not based on a socialist model of redistribution of wealth. That scheme has failed and is failing everytime it is tried.
If you don't believe me, visit oil rich Venezuela and see if you can buy food or turn on the lights. Do you want that to happen in the United States?

At the U.N., Many Hope for an Obama Win
By Colum Lynch
October 26, 2008; A17
UNITED NATIONS -- There are no "Obama 2008" buttons, banners or T-shirts visible here at U.N. headquarters, but it might be difficult to find a sliver of territory in the United States more enthusiastic over the prospect of the Illinois senator winning the White House.
An informal survey of more than two dozen U.N. staff members and foreign delegates showed that the overwhelming majority would prefer that Sen. Barack Obama win the presidency, saying they think that the Democrat would usher in a new agenda of multilateralism after an era marked by Republican disdain for the world body.
Obama supporters hail from Russia, Canada, France, Britain, Germany, the Netherlands, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Indonesia and elsewhere. One American employee here seemed puzzled that he was being asked whether Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) was even a consideration. "Obama was and is unstoppable," the official said. "Please, God, let him win," he added.
"It would be hard to find anybody, I think, at the U.N. who would not believe that Obama would be a considerable improvement over any other alternative," said William H. Luers, executive director of the United Nations Association. "It's been a bad eight years, and there is a lot of bad feeling over it."
One U.N. official threw a party over the summer and asked guests to place stickers of either an elephant or a donkey on the front door to show their political preference. At the end of the night, the door was covered with about 30 donkeys and two elephants. "We found out that one of the Republicans was an American and the other couldn't vote," according to a U.N. official who attended. "So we convinced the American to vote for Obama."
"I have not heard a single person who will support McCain; if they do, they are in hiding," said another U.N. Obama booster from an African country. "The majority of people here believe in multilateralism," he said. "The Republicans were constantly questioning the relevance of the United Nations."
For the small minority of U.N. officials who have stuck with McCain -- only two of 28 U.N. officials and diplomats questioned said they favored the Arizona senator -- life in Turtle Bay can seem lonely. "I keep my mouth shut," said one American official here who plans to vote for McCain. "Everyone is knocking on wood, counting the days to the elections. Some Americans here are planning to move to Washington," in search of jobs in an Obama administration.
"It will be devastating if Obama loses," the official said. "There has been such an amount of faith placed on the outcome."
So let me get this straight: One of the most bloated, corrupt and ineffective organizations in the world today wants Obama to win?
What does that say about Obama?
Saturday, October 25, 2008
I've often wondered why more "news" reporters don't ask the tough questions about who and what Obama really is. Obama's entire life has been spent in the company of Marxists with radical, anti-American views. What does he really believe?
One reporter finally asked:
The immediate reaction from the Obama Thug Machine was swift and harsh. The thugocracy canceled a planned interview with Joe Biden's wife Jill saying:
"There's nothing wrong with tough questions, but reporters have the very important job of sharing the truth with the public -- not misleading the American people with false information. How long will it be before this television anchor's personal information and privacy are splashed all over the Internet by the Obama Thug machine?
Senator Biden's wife is not running for elected office, and there are many other stations in the Orlando television market that would gladly conduct a respectful and factual interview with her."
"This cancellation is non-negotiable, and further opportunities for your station to interview with this campaign are unlikely, at best for the duration of the remaining days until the election," wrote Laura K. McGinnis, Central Florida communications director for the Obama campaign.
Apparently he has good reason to be concerned:
3 searches of 'Joe's' BMV files probedA pattern is developing whereby anyone who criticizes Obama will be subject to violations of their privacy including unlawful searches into their personal information.
State investigating whether checks after presidential debate were lawful
By Randy Ludlow
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
October 25, 2008
State and local officials are investigating whether state and law-enforcement computer systems were used illegally to obtain personal information about "Joe the Plumber."
Public records requested by The Dispatch disclose that information on Wurzelbacher's driver's license or his sport-utility vehicle was pulled from the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles database three times shortly after the debate.
Information on Wurzelbacher was accessed through accounts assigned to the office of Ohio Attorney General Nancy H. Rogers, the Cuyahoga County Child Support Enforcement Agency and the Toledo Police Department.
It has not been determined who checked on Wurzelbacher, or why. Direct access to driver's license and vehicle registration information from BMV computers is restricted to legitimate law-enforcement and government business.
Paul Lindsay, Ohio spokesman for the McCain campaign, called the inquiries politically motivated. "It's outrageous to see how quickly Barack Obama's allies would abuse government power in an attempt to smear a private citizen who dared to ask a legitimate question," he said.
It's no wonder Joe is scared for America. We should all be worried. While some Democrats support civil liberties for terrorists detained at Guantanamo, they are busy undermining those same rights of their fellow citizens.
Hand these thugs the keys to the federal government and our rights are all at risk.
BAM STAFFERS PULL THEIR BOGUS OHIO BALLOTSMeanwhile, there still has been no resolution to the problem of 200,000 suspicious voter registrations in Ohio. President Bush ordered the Department of Justice to see if any violations of the Help America Vote Act have occurred after the Supreme Court overturned the order directing the Ohio Secretary of Secretary of State to comply with the law. The President acted shortly after receiving a request from House Minority Leader John Boehner (letter-PDF).

New York Post
October 25, 2008
Thirteen campaign workers for Barack Obama yesterday yanked their voter registrations and ballots in Ohio after being warned by a prosecutor that temporary residents can't vote in the battleground state.
A dozen staffers - including Obama Ohio spokeswoman Olivia Alair and James Cadogan, who recently joined Team Obama - signed a form letter asking the Franklin County elections board to pull their names from the rolls.
Also pulling his ballot yesterday was Hofstra University grad Jake Smith, an Obama volunteer who had voted in Knox County, Ohio.
On Thursday, O'Brien cut a deal with 13 out-of-staters, including four from New York, who tossed out their already-cast ballots and admitted they didn't meet residency requirements.

It's official, the woman who claimed she was attacked by a black man at a Pittsburgh ATM has admitted she lied.
It's a sad and despicable act. I'm sure that all my conservative friends join me in condemning her in the strongest possible terms.
Sadly, it undermines the very real attacks and racist vandalism that HAVE been directed at Republicans.
Their is no question that the McCain volunteer, a woman, in New York was assaulted by an angry Obama supporter. Neither has their been any suggestion that the racial incident here in South Carolina where the County Chairman of the York, SC GOP, who is black, was greeted with vandalized offices where "Republican means slavery" was scrawled.
Meanwhile, the widely circulated "news" story that Republicans at a McCain rally were calling for Obama to be killed has been thoroughly investigated by the Secret Service and found to be false.
There is also no doubt whatsoever about the campaign of hate directed at Republicans from the top of the Democrat leadership on down. Whether it's DNC Chair Howard Dean who declared: "I hate Republicans and everything they stand for" or the bile coming from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid who called President Bush a loser and a liar or the stream of abuse from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
And what about the voter fraud group ACORN that has direct ties to Obama's campaign? Are they exempt from the law because they support Obama?
The young woman who committed this fraud in Pennsylvania should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.... Right after we hold Democrats guilty of REAL crimes to the same standard.
Don't hold your breath waiting for that to happen.
You might have heard that at a recent Obama rally in New Hampshire they canceled the National Anthem which was scheduled to be sung by a local teenager famous for his singing of the national song. Obama's people insisted that the singing of the Anthem would take valuable time away from the speakers they had lined up (probably a bunch of Marxists like Ayers and Rev. Wright).
But the truth may be somewhat different. It appears they have been working on their own version of the National Anthem and are just waiting until after the election to have their tune ratified by the Democrats who control both house of Congress:
Frankly, I prefer the original National Anthem, sung here by the U.S. Air Force Band. But if Obama is elected we are going to have to get used to "change" aren't we?

Iran’s WarToday, the top brass of the Marine Corps gathered at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina along with veterans of the Beirut bombings to honor the fallen.
After a quarter century, too little learned.
By Clifford D. May
October 9, 2008
Twenty-five years ago, several hundred U.S. Marines were stationed in Beirut on a peace-keeping mission. On September 26, an official with the Iranian Intelligence Service in Tehran phoned the Iranian ambassador in Damascus and issued an order to have them killed. Twenty-eight days later, at 06:22 on Sunday morning, October 23, 1983, two suicide bombers struck.
The death toll: 241 troops, “the highest loss of life in a single day since D-Day on Iwo Jima in 1945,” Timothy J. Geraghty, who had been the Marines’ commanding officer, recently noted.
We know about the phone call because, as Geraghty also noted, it was intercepted by the National Security Agency. Unfortunately, this was an occasion — neither the first nor the last — when vital intelligence was collected but not translated, analyzed, and acted upon in time.
To plan and carry out the attacks, the Iranian ambassador tapped Lebanese Hezbollah. The Hezbollah operative in charge was Imad Fayez Mughniyeh.
The Camp Lejeune web site invites you to view this memorial powerpoint slide presentation.
Cliff May concludes:
On the same day [that Marines gather], Geraghty observes, at “the Iranian Behesht-E-Zahra cemetery in southern Tehran, there will be a ceremony at a monument erected in 2004 to commemorate the Beirut suicide bombers. In attendance will likely be some dressed as suicide bombers, chanting the standard ‘death to America’ and ‘death to Israel.’”
The good news, if there is any, is that Mughniyeh will not be joining the festivities this year. In February, he was killed by a car bomb in Damascus. No individual, group, or government has claimed responsibility.

Is this the "Scarlet Letter" Obama fascists are threatening:
The race war that Obama and his supporters have unleashed from the beginning of this campaign has taken another victim!
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Pittsburgh police are investigating after a volunteer for the Republican campaign says she was attacked by a mugger who became enraged after seeing a John McCain bumper sticker on her car last night.
According to police, the 20-year-old woman said she was robbed at an ATM at the corner of Liberty Avenue and Pearl Street in the Bloomfield area around 9pm Wednesday after leaving a Republican phone bank.
The woman told police that the suspect, described only as a dark-skinned African-American man about 6'4", stole $60 from her and became enraged after seeing a bumper sticker supporting Republican Presidential Candidate John McCain on her car.
The woman said the suspect punched and kicked her before knocking her the ground.
The McCain camp tells KDKA that the victim is a 20-year-old Republican from Texas.
According to a campaign spokesperson, after seeing her bumper sticker supporting McCain, the suspect said, 'Oh you're with McCain, you're with the McCain campaign? I'm going to teach you a lesson.'"
After repeatedly hitting, kicking and threatening the woman, the McCain camp says the suspect carved a "B" in her cheek for "Barack" Obama.
The Obama Thugocracy has arrived!
Obama has spent more money on negative ads than ALL of the ads run by John McCain. And yet the public is under the perception that McCain has run a negative campaign. General Colin Powell echoed that sentiment when he endorsed McCain.
So where did Powell and others get this idea?
Is it any wonder that the "news" media won't cover Obama's longstanding ties to the terrorist William Ayers or discuss how Obama's long associations with such people as Ayers, Rev. Wright or Fr. Michael Pfleger have shaped his views and would effect how he would act as President?
How the Press Reported the 2008 General Election
The Project for Excellence in Journalism
October 22, 2008
The media coverage of the race for president has not so much cast Barack Obama in a favorable light as it has portrayed John McCain in a substantially negative one, according to a new study of the media since the two national political conventions ended.
Press treatment of Obama has been somewhat more positive than negative, but not markedly so.
But coverage of McCain has been heavily unfavorable—and has become more so over time. In the six weeks following the conventions through the final debate, unfavorable stories about McCain outweighed favorable ones by a factor of more than three to one—the most unfavorable of all four candidates—according to the study by the Pew Research Center’s Project for Excellence in Journalism.
For Obama during this period, just over a third of the stories were clearly positive in tone (36%), while a similar number (35%) were neutral or mixed. A smaller number (29%) were negative.
For McCain, by comparison, nearly six in ten of the stories studied were decidedly negative in nature (57%), while fewer than two in ten (14%) were positive.

If Independent Voters are Repulsed by Negative Campainging, Why Have They Put Up with the Dem Hate Campaign?
Who are left-wing haters to point fingers at John McCain?
BY JAMES KIRCHICK
NY Daily News
Tuesday, October 21st 2008
In his endorsement of Barack Obama last week, former Bush administration Secretary of State Colin Powell said that "I have heard senior members of my own party drop the suggestion, 'He's a Muslim and he might be associated [with] terrorists.' "
This is a serious accusation to level, and Powell ought to have had the courage to name names.
Nonetheless, the notion that the McCain campaign, and conservatives more broadly, have stooped to an unprecedented level of "sleaziness" with negative, nasty and mendacious campaign tactics has become the accepted media narrative over the past several weeks. "Smear" is the word you most often hear nowadays next to "Republican." But while it may be true that some in the conservative fever swamps have resorted to ugly tactics, they don't hold a candle to the left's rhetoric over the past eight years.
Liberal pundits are attempting to outdo one another in describing just how unscrupulous conservatives have become. In The New Yorker last week, Hendrik Hertzberg referred to McCain-Palin rallies as "blood-curdling hate-fests." Frank Rich went one step further in The New York Times, decrying the "Weimar-like rage" of the Republican Party base, evidenced by a few attendees at a Sarah Palin rally who shouted "terrorist" and "off with his head" when she mentioned Barack Obama. Rich's fellow Times columnist Paul Krugman remarked that attendees at GOP gatherings have been "gripped by insane rage" at the prospect of an Obama presidency. Ascribing the oafish behavior of a handful to an entire political party, The Nation magazine slams the "GOP's machinery of hate" in an editorial patronizingly entitled, "Waiting for the Barbarians."
If my inbox is to be believed, there are certainly people on the right who believe that Barack Obama is a secret Muslim lying in wait to foist jihad upon the United States. And there are people who oppose him because of his name or his race. But one has to have been asleep during the Bush years to think that nuttery is exclusively a conservative phenomenon.
What about the left's conspiracy theories? A not insignificant portion of liberals in this country believe that a small group of Jews, er, the "neocons," took control of the government following 9/11 to fight wars on behalf of Israel. Is not this slander as odious as the Internet rumors about Barack Obama?
Time columnist Joe Klein fits the profile of the liberal hypocrite beset with disappointment over McCain's alleged degradation. He recently apologized to readers for writing earlier that John McCain was "honorable." This from a man who just a few months ago alleged that "Jewish neoconservatives" were disloyal Americans because their "plump[ing]" for war in Iraq and now Iran "raised the question of divided loyalties: using U.S. military power, U.S. lives and money, to make the world safe for Israel."
Rich's use of the term "Weimar-like rage," ironically in a column decrying Republican scare tactics, is but one example of the left's careless usage of Nazi allegories to describe people and policies they don't like. Since 9/11, major anti-war rallies have included people holding signs and puppets comparing President Bush to Adolf Hitler. Leftist writer Naomi Wolf, who has expressed fears that the feds were monitoring her children's letters from summer camp, recently published a book titled, "The End of America," which likens the Bush administration to a fascist junta.
MSNBC's Keith Olbermann spews over-the-top, hateful rhetoric in his "Special Comments" on a regular basis. He has said that the Bush administration threatens America with a "new type of fascism," referred to the GOP as the "leading terrorist group in this country" on the fifth anniversary of 9/11, and has said that Fox News is "worse than Al Qaeda" and "as dangerous as the Ku Klux Klan ever was."
Have the journalists now bemoaning the low tactics of the McCain campaign and its supporters never set eyes upon the wildly popular Huffington Post? That Web site hosts countless angry rants, many examples of which are too vulgar to document in a family newspaper. In 2004, Nicholson Baker wrote a novel imagining the assassination of President Bush. Last week, Fox's "Family Guy" depicted Nazis donning McCain-Palin buttons.
If these fringe (and most of them are hardly fringe) individuals don't speak for American liberalism writ large - as most "respectable" liberals will tell us when confronted by the examples enumerated above - then the stray hecklers at McCain-Palin rallies cannot represent American conservatism.
By imputing the crazy views of a few right-wing extremists to all conservatives, Obama supporters cut off legitimate concerns about their candidate's positions and qualifications for office. Anyone troubled by the Democratic presidential candidate's years-long association with unrepentant terrorist William Ayers and his dismissal of that individual as "a guy who lives in my neighborhood" becomes a right-wing lunatic. Anyone who raises the Rev. Jeremiah Wright is answered with an eye roll.
To be sure, the McCain campaign has made its fair share of exaggerations and distortions about its opponent's record. But nothing he or his surrogates have done is any more egregious than the lies, hysteria and ad hominem attacks that have poured from the mouths and keyboards of the left. So pardon me for being a little skeptical about the pundit class' selective indignation over gutter-ball campaign tactics. It would have been nice if they paid attention the last eight years.
And that's just a short list... we could go on and on and on.
When have Democrats EVER repudiated such hateful statements?
Sen. Coleman's House Vandalized
by Walter Alarkon
The Hill Blog
October 22, 2008
Vandals spray painted the words "scum" and "criminal" on the garage of Sen. Norm Coleman (R-Minn.), who is locked in a tight re-election race.
Using black paint, someone wrote out "U R A CRIMINAL RESIGN OR ELSE!" on Coleman's garage door at his home in St. Paul, reports KMSP, the Fox affiliate in the Twin Cities. "PSALM 2″ and "scum" were also written on the door. The police are investigating. The vandalism was spotted was spotted Wednesday morning.
Coleman faces a challenge to his seat from Democrat Al Franken.
Add this up with the growing list of crimes against democracy being waged by leftwing fascists. What will the "news" media say when these fascists actually start attacking people based on their political beliefs? Not much by recent accounts.
People should ask: is this the "hope" and "change" Obama promises?
Who remembers the last time a campaign of hate was unleashed against political opponents and classes of people?
Is this the "Coming Obama Thugocracy?"

This isn't the first glimpse into what Joe Biden really thinks. Who can forget he said this about Obama in August 2007: "The presidency is not something that lends itself to on-the-job training." In that same month he described Obama's foreign policy this way: "Having talking points on foreign policy doesn't get you there."
Biden on Obama:
While Biden's remarks reminded many of the Cuban Missile Crisis which the Soviets unleashed after they perceived weakness from the inexperienced and untested President John F. Kennedy, Ed Morrissey saw flashbacks to Jimmy Carter:
I’ve said for months that Obama would serve the second term of the Jimmy Carter administration on both economics and foreign policy. Carter’s inaction on Afghanistan and Iran certainly worked out well for us, didn’t it? Both gave rise to Islamic fundamentalism, and eventually forced us to go to war to fight it at great cost and difficulty. While Joe Biden appears to be in hiding, Sarah Palin is out there proud, loud and strong:
Excerpts of Gov. Palin in Reno, Nevada

...Did you hear what Senator Biden said at a fundraiser on Sunday? He guaranteed that if Barack Obama is elected, we'll face an international crisis within the first six months of their administration. He told Democrat donors to mark his words – that there were “at least four or five scenarios” that would place our country at risk in an Obama administration. Thanks for the warning, Joe!
He didn't specify what all those four or five scenarios will be, but for clues, let's review the Obama foreign policy agenda.
Our opponent wants to sit down with the world's worst dictators. With no preconditions, he proposes to meet with a regime in Teheran that vows to “wipe Israel off the map.” Let's call that crisis scenario number one.
Senator Obama has also advocated sending our U.S. military into Pakistan without the approval of the Pakistani government. Invading the sovereign territory of a troubled partner in the war against terrorism. We'll call that scenario number two.
He opposed the surge strategy that has finally brought victory in Iraq within sight. He's voted to cut off funding for our troops, leaving our young men and women at grave risk. He wants to pull out, leaving some 25 million Iraqis at the mercy of Iranian-supported Shiite extremists and al Qaeda in Iraq. By his own admission, this could mean our troops would have to go back to Iraq. Crisis scenario number three.
After the Russian army invaded the nation of Georgia, Senator Obama's reaction was one of indecision and moral equivalence – the kind of response that would only encourage Vladimir Putin to invade Ukraine next. That would be crisis scenario number four.
But I guess the looming crisis that most worries the Obama campaign right now is Joe Biden's next speaking engagement. Let's call that crisis scenario number five.
The real problem is that these warnings from Joe Biden are similar to his earlier assessment of Barack Obama. It wasn't so long ago that he said Barack Obama wasn't up to the job, and that, quote, “the presidency is not something that lends itself to on-the-job training.”
The same Joe Biden said he would be honored to run on the ticket with John McCain because, quote, “the country would be better off.” And here we have some common ground. I want a president who spent 22 years in uniform defending our country. I want a president who isn't afraid to use the word “victory” when he talks about the wars we are fighting. I want a president who's ready on Day One. I want a president with the experience and the judgment and the wisdom to meet the next international crisis – or better yet to avoid it. I want John McCain as our commander-in-chief.
Mark Steyn posted this latest example of the cult worship of Obama at The Corner on Monday.
The photo was taken at a street fair in San Francisco.
Leftists who long ago rejected God seem only too willing to put the false idol Obama in God's place.
Students of history and those old enough to remember will recall that during John F. Kennedy's early years in office we went to the brink of nuclear war with the Soviets after they placed missiles in Cuba capable of delivering atomic warheads to American cities in mere minutes. Who would want to repeat that?
This is what happens when you have a candidate nominated by the "cut and run" crowd. You'll have bad guys all over the world, who President Bush has kept at bay, suddenly thinking now is their chance to go for it.
None of the bad guys would need to test McCain. They know what he would do and that fear deters them from acting.
An Obama presidency invites a dangerous uncertainty which threatens to disrupt peace and potentially cause war!
For Conservatives, Obama's Changes Would Be Permanent and Devastating
By Michael Medved
October 19, 2008
Some conservative activists, despairing (prematurely) about the chances for victory on November 4th, argue that an Obama win could be a blessing in disguise. According to this logic, The One would occupy the White House for only One term and whatever big government, liberal programs he managed to enact could be swiftly repealed by some future "true conservative" champion.
[C]onservatives need to face the fact that Barack Obama has promised profound systemic changes that will be irreversible—absolutely permanent alterations of our economy and government where there is no chance at all that Republican office-holders of the future could in any way repair the damage.
Presidents may come and go, but entitlements are forever. New government give-aways may accomplish nothing constructive but they’re all but impossible to eliminate once they’re up and running.
He will also get the chance to appoint at least two, and perhaps as many as four new justices to the Supreme Court of the United States. All legal observers expect Obama’s nominees to embrace an even more activist, leftist view of the Constitution and legal system than Clinton’s appointees, Breyer and Ginzburg. The damage from the remaking of the court could prove incalculable.
Finally, and perhaps most fatally, a President Obama will radically revamp our already broken immigration system and permanently remake the country, politically and demographically.
That’s the biggest threat of an Obama presidency: the creation of vast new groups of dependent Americans who will comprise an unassailable new coalition that will enjoy iron control of our politics for a generation or more. If you start with newly legalized immigrant voters (with as many as 10 million new Democrats totally beholden to Obama and company) and then add the beneficiaries of government pre-school, the new nursery school teachers, the recipients and administrators of federal health insurance, federal college grants, the businesses who’ll enjoy the $150 billion in promised subsidies for “alternative energy,” the companies and employees of the vast increases in “infra-structure” spending (lots more bridges to nowhere), the non-tax payers who will suddenly receive a $1,000 per household check (under the guise of “refundable tax credit,” and many, many more.
In his first years in office, a President Obama could easily succeed in buying so many interest groups and constituencies with expensive new governmental favors, that conservative dreams of rebuilding a small government majority will go absolutely nowhere.
The conservative movement, and the survival of a viable small-government faction in American politics, depends upon a McCain victory in November. A triumph for Barack Obama, combined with Democratic gains in both House and Senate, could easily usher in a dark new era with decades of corrupt, welfare-state, bureaucratic leftist rule.
Any conservative sitting out this election or voting for Obama should have their head examined!

Joe the plumber! Joe the plumber! You're either getting tired of hearing about him or you can't get enough. The reason he's an instant sensation in the closing weeks of this campaign is that his encounter with Barack Hussein Obama gave us a direct insight into who and what Obama really is.
After Joe expressed his concern that Obama's tax plan would take money away from Joe's plan to buy and then grow a business "The One" tripped up and revealed his goal was to "spread the wealth around."
In a Gallup Poll last June, the American people overwhelmingly rejected income redistribution by 84%. Even 77% of Democrats disagreed with the idea that income redistribution was a good idea.
In the campaign voters need to ask themselves whether they want Washington politicians to take more and more of their hard earned money and toss it down a bureaucratic rat hole or whether they want to keep that money so they can hire more workers, buy more equipment and increase the wealth of everyone the old-fashioned way: by creating opportunity, not another handout!
The Obama campaign's reaction to Joe the Plumbers sudden burst on the scene has been to smear and besmirch Joe's reputation. Aided by a "news" media that seems more interested in Joe's back taxes than they do in how many police stations Obama's friend William Ayers bombed, Obama has resorted to the politics of personal destruction directed not at another politician (like Sarah Palin) but at a private citizen.
The same people who demand civil liberties for terrorists detained at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba seem eager and willing to destroy a hardworking middle class American.
Skye shared with us this video of Obama belittling Joe in a recent stump speech.
McCain Fires Back
John McCain's RemarksMcCain expressed similar views the day before in Florida:

Oct. 18, 2008
Now, Joe didn't ask for Senator Obama to come to his house, and he didn't ask to be famous. He certainly didn't ask for the political attacks on him from the Obama campaign. Joe's dream is to own a small business that will create jobs in his community, and the attacks on him are an attack on small businesses all over the country that employ 84% of Americans. We learned more about Senator Obama's plans from Joe's question than we've learned in months of speeches by Senator Obama.
We learned that Senator Obama's economic goal is, as he told Joe, is to quote "spread the wealth around." He believes in redistributing wealth, not in policies that grow our economy and create jobs and opportunities for all Americans. This explains some big problems with my opponent's claim that he will cut income taxes for 95 percent of Americans. You might ask: How do you cut income taxes for 95 percent of Americans, when more than 40 percent pay no income taxes right now? How do you reduce the number zero?
Well, that's the key to Barack Obama's whole plan: Since you can't reduce taxes on those who pay zero, the government will write them all checks called a tax credit. And the Treasury will have to cover those checks by taxing other people, including a lot of folks just like Joe. In other words, Barack Obama's plan to raise taxes on some in order to give checks to others is not a tax cut; it's just another government giveaway.
The Obama tax increase would come at the worst possible time for America, and especially for small businesses like the one Joe dreams of owning. The small businesses Senator Obama would tax provide 16 million jobs in America. And a sudden tax hike will kill some of those jobs at a time when need to be creating more jobs. I'm not going to let that happen.
America has an alternative to the phony tax cut my opponent started talking about only months ago. The McCain-Palin tax cut is the real thing. We're going to double the child deduction for every family. We will cut the capital gains tax. And we will cut business taxes to help create jobs, and keep American businesses in America.
As Joe has now reminded us all, America didn't become the greatest nation on earth by giving our money to the government to "spread the wealth around." In this country, we believe in spreading opportunity, for those who need jobs and those who create them. And that is exactly what I intend to do as President of the United States.
Plumber Joe craze sweeps the country!

Joe for Congress?

Ben Smith at the Politico has the script and audio:
Reports have the calls being made to voters in Wisconsin, New Mexico,Virginia, Maine, Florida, Missouri,North Carolina and Pennsylvania.
Hello. I'm calling for John McCain and the RNC because you need to know that Barack Obama has worked closely with domestic terrorist Bill Ayers, whose organization bombed the U.S. capitol, the Pentagon, a judge's home and killed Americans. And Democrats will enact an extreme leftist agenda if they take control of Washington. Barack Obama and his Democratic allies lack the judgment to lead our country. This call was paid for by McCain-Palin 2008 and the Republican National Committee.
If you or a family member or friend is unclear about why Ayers matters, here's a brief backgrounder. It explains WHO and WHAT Obama REALLY is.
McCain Also Focusing on Obama's "share the wealth" socialism
In the wake of the Joe the Plumber confrontation with Obama, strategists like Karl Rove and Dick Morris agree that Obama is vulnerable on the issues of taxes and spending. Like his long association with Ayers, who openly proclaims his support for communism, Obama's share the wealth remark was an insight into who and what he really is. Here's more:
Capital CommercePolls continue to show race tightening, but Obama maintains slim lead:
By James Pethokoukis
U.S. News and World Report
October 16, 2008
A while back I chatted with a University of Chicago professor who was a frequent lunch companion of Obama's. This professor said that Obama was as close to a full-out Marxist as anyone who has ever run for president of the United States. Now, I tend to quickly dismiss that kind of talk as way over the top. My working assumption is that Obama is firmly within the mainstream of Democratic politics. But if he is as free with that sort of redistributive philosophy in private as he was on the campaign trail this week, I have no doubt that U of C professor really does figure him as a radical. And after last night's debate, a few more Americans might think that way, too. McCain's best line: "Now, of all times in America, we need to cut people's taxes. We need to encourage business, create jobs, not spread the wealth around."
While the Real Clear Politics average (showing latest polls) still has Obama with a lead outside the margin of error, a raft of new polls are suggesting the race may be much closer:
Diego/Hotline daily tracking poll may have Obama up by ten points, and Zogby daily may have Obama up by five, but the traditional voter model at Gallup has only a 2 point spread in Obama's favor which is matched by a similar result at AP/Yahoo poll. The truth may lie somewhere in between, but the overall trend across the board shows a tightening race with McCain gaining a point every other day or so. If that keeps up the race will soon be tied and if the trend continues, McCain will win.
Remaining undecided voters need to answer for themselves one question: as bad as you think things have gone the last eight years are you willing to gamble on an inexperienced, unproven candidate who might make things worse?
Think About It!
Remember the Carter years? Change is not always a good thing!

Secret Service says "Kill him" allegation unfounded
By Andrew M. Seder
The Times Leader
Oct. 16, 2008
SCRANTON – The agent in charge of the Secret Service field office in Scranton said allegations that someone yelled “kill him” when presidential hopeful Barack Obama’s name was mentioned during Tuesday’s Sarah Palin rally are unfounded.
The Scranton Times-Tribune first reported the alleged incident on its Web site Tuesday and then again in its print edition Wednesday. The first story, written by reporter David Singleton, appeared with allegations that while congressional candidate Chris Hackett was addressing the crowd and mentioned Obama’s name a man in the audience shouted “kill him."
News organizations including ABC, The Associated Press, The Washington Monthly and MSNBC’s Countdown with Keith Olbermann reported the claim, with most attributing the allegations to the Times-Tribune story.
Agent Bill Slavoski said he was in the audience, along with an undisclosed number of additional secret service agents and other law enforcement officers and not one heard the comment.
“I was baffled,” he said after reading the report in Wednesday’s Times-Tribune.
He said the agency conducted an investigation Wednesday, after seeing the story, and could not find one person to corroborate the allegation other than Singleton.
Slavoski said more than 20 non-security agents were interviewed Wednesday, from news media to ordinary citizens in attendance at the rally for the Republican vice presidential candidate held at the Riverfront Sports Complex. He said Singleton was the only one to say he heard someone yell “kill him.”
“We have yet to find someone to back up the story,” Slavoski said. “We had people all over and we have yet to find anyone who said they heard it.”
Hackett said he did not hear the remark.
Slavoski said Singleton was interviewed Wednesday and stood by his story but couldn’t give a description of the man because he didn’t see him he only heard him.
When contacted Wednesday afternoon, Singleton referred questions to Times-Tribune Metro Editor Jeff Sonderman. Sonderman said, “We stand by the story. The facts reported are true and that’s really all there is.”
Slavoski said the agents take such threats or comments seriously and immediately opened an investigation but after due diligence “as far as we’re concerned it’s closed unless someone comes forward.” He urged anyone with knowledge of the alleged incident to call him at 346-5781. “We’ll run at all leads,” he said.
Perhaps the Secret Service should be investigating the only "reporter" who claims to have heard the remark! After all, this isn't the first time phony allegations have been made by Obama supporters in an attempt to get McCain people in trouble.

"I Don't Regret Setting Bombs ... I Feel We Didn't Do Enough." William Ayers, September 11th, 2001 as quoted in the New York Times while Ground Zero and the Pentagon were under attack
I was shocked to learn this week that there are educated, intelligent professionals out there who don't know who William Ayers is or why it's an important issue. People who only get a nightly half hour newscast from the traditional "news" sources may have heard little, if anything, about this matter.
Like the nationwide ACORN voter fraud fiasco Ayers is key to understanding Obama and what he really believes. Obama talks in campaign generalities about hope and change and there is little in his undistinguished Senate record that illuminates his character and beliefs. But scratch the surface, as we do here, and you find the truth behind the slogans.
William Ayers Helps Reveal the REAL Obama
Ayers and his wife Bernardine Dohrn (who also knows Michelle Obama) were founding members of the Weatherman terrorist group. A self described communist organization whose goal was to overthrow the U.S. government. While much of their early activity centered around riots in Chicago they later branched out and bombed targets across the country (list here) which included the Pentagon and U.S. Capitol.
Obama's defenders point out that he was 8 years old at the time. So how is this relevant?
Ayers never repented from his goal to overthrow the U.S. government. He escaped conviction on felony charges for his activities on a technicality and later became a professor specializing in social justice and education reform. That's where we pick up the Obama story again.
We don't know when Barack Hussein Obama and William Ayers first met. They were both living in the same neighborhood in New York City when Obama was at Columbia. But since Obama's record at Columbia has been sealed and he never talks about it the best we know is this:
William Ayers helped launch Obama's political career by hosting a meeting for him in the living room of his Chicago home in 1995. Obama and Ayers are neighbors in Hyde Park, and just down the street is the radical Rev. Louis Farrakhan who recently declared that Obama is the Messiah (video here).
Obama and Ayers also served together on a number of community boards and Obama even wrote a commentary praising Ayers book on the juvenile justice system. As board members of the Woods Foundation, Obama and Ayers provided grant money for ACORN, the group at the center of the nationwide investigation into voter fraud.
Obama and Ayers also served together on the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, a foundation providing money supposedly to help schools but which instead was used to brainwash children to become footsoldiers in the socialist revolution. A "Peace School" to promote socialist revolution was funded, while a grant to teach Algebra was declined.
Ayers has been very open about his objectives in education. In November 2006 he traveled to Caracas Venezuela and stood next to Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez at the World Education Forum and delivered a speech with these very insightful nuggets of his philosophy:
Now, lots of lefty loons have come back from either Venezuela or Castro's Cuba praising the Marxist way of life. But how many of them have direct long standing ties to a man who might be President? And since Obama supported Ayers work with millions in grant money doesn't this reveal what Obama really believes?

- President Hugo Chavez, Vice-President Vicente Rangel, Ministers Moncada and Isturiz, invited guests, comrades. I’m honored and humbled to be here with you this morning. I bring greetings and support from your brothers and sisters throughout Northamerica.
- This is my fourth visit to Venezuela, each time at the invitation of my comrade and friend Luis Bonilla, a brilliant educator and inspiring fighter for justice. Luis has taught me a great deal about the Bolivarian Revolution and about the profound educational reforms underway here in Venezuela under the leadership of President Chavez. We share the belief that education is the motor-force of revolution, and I’ve come to appreciate Luis as a major asset in both the Venezuelan and the international struggle---I look forward to seeing how he and all of you continue to overcome the failings of capitalist education as you seek to create something truly new and deeply humane.
- Teaching invites transformations, it urges revolutions small and large. La educacion es revolucion!
- Capitalism promotes racism and militarism – turning people into consumers, not citizens.
- Let those of us who are gathered here today read this poem as “The Teacher’s Obligation.” We, too, must move in and out of windows, we, too, must build a project of radical imagination and fundamental change. Venezuela is poised to offer the world a new model of education– a humanizing and revolutionary model whose twin missions are enlightenment and liberation. This World Education Forum provides us a unique opportunity to develop and share the lessons and challenges of this profound educational project that is the Bolivarian Revolution.
CNN has this excellent investigative report on the Obama-Ayers connection:
William Ayers is an America hating radical whose goal in life is to destroy our capitalist system and usher in the false utopia of a socialist or Marxist state. All along the way Barack Hussein Obama has been helping him advance those goals.
If you want to destroy America, then vote for Obama!
My own view is that I will be glad to see the debates finished. Thus far, McCain has not delivered on his promises to take off the gloves and hammer Obama in the debates with his associations with the vile terrorist William Ayers and other persons who give us the only glimpse we have as to who and what Obama really is. Whether McCain brings up this subject tonight remains to be seen.
Overall, the debates have not been McCain's friend and Obama has benefited merely by showing up and avoiding any revealing insights into his character or experience. Trading charges back and forth over Senate votes that are difficult for regular voters to follow does little to help McCain.
Since the last debate, McCain has seen a slight recovery in 3 of the 4 nationwide polls which I follow daily. Several, like the Gallup traditional voting model, are now showing him within the margin of error. Some of that improvement began despite criticism of the angry statements by some at McCain rallies and the stock market plunge of last week.
While Obama does seem to have a stable lead in a number of polls, it is not true that this debate is McCain's last chance to recapture the forward momentum he needs to pull ahead. Absent any new financial disaster or other October surprise brought forward by Democrats McCain has sufficient time to whittle away at Obama's fragile lead in key states.
Make no mistake, it's an uphill battle at this point but that battle is not lost and can be won!
P.S. If you would like to co-host the live chat on your blog please leave your email address in the comments form and I'll send out the code shortly before the debate begins.

Remember when Nancy Pelosi rode into the Speaker's Chair on her broom promising to clean up the House? The House under her leadership would be "the most honest, most open and most ethical Congress in history." That was right after she promised it would "restore stability and bipartisanship" and a "new direction" in Iraq.
So it shouldn't surprise anyone that after touting the Mark Foley email (no sex) scandal, the Mr. Clean Dems picked to fill Foley's seat should be involved in a REAL sex scandal and one involving payoffs and nasty audio tapes!
John Lillpop at the Canada Free Press summed it up brilliantly:
Tim Mahoney, sexual tryst, $120,000 payoffLet's not forget that in the wake of the Mark Foley resignation, the media went on a field day breathlessly reporting every scintillating detail of the inappropriate emails Mark Foley sent to a former page. There were demands for a special investigation to see what House GOP leadership did, or did not do, when they learned of the affair.
Culture of Corruption Snares Another Democrat While Pelosi Snoozes!
By John Lillpop
Canada Free Press
Monday, October 13, 2008
In 2006, Republican Mark Foley did the honorable thing when news of his sex scandal was disclosed: He immediately resigned his seat in the House of Representatives.
At the time, Nancy Pelosi chalked up the Foley scalp as another ringing example of the “Culture of Corruption” run by and for Republicans.
Unfortunately for Pelosi and the Democrats, Tim Mahoney, the Democrat who captured Foley’s seat, has apparently entangled himself in not only a sexual tryst, but what appears to be a $120,000 payoff as well.
Unlike House Republicans who demanded that Foley leave, Democrats have circled the wagon around Mahoney in order to avoid losing that House seat.
Politics before principle, or so it appears.
From ABC News, this report:
“Senior Democratic leaders in the House of Representatives, including Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-IL), the chair of the Democratic Caucus, have been working with Mahoney to keep the matter from hurting his re-election campaign, the Mahoney staffers said.”
What about the integrity of the House and doing the business of the people, Rep. Emanuel? Is that just too much to expect from a Democrat?
Speaker Pelosi issued the following public statement:
“I just learned today about the serious allegations concerning Congressman Tim Mahoney. These charges must be immediately and thoroughly investigated by the House Ethics Committee.”
Just learned about the scandal, Speaker Pelosi? Is that because you were too busy looking for non-existent corruption among Republicans to smell the stench on your own doorstep?
By the way, didn’t Pelosi advertise herself as the woman who would “clean up the House” ?
Judging from the likes of Tim Mahoney and Charles Rangel, that woman is just not up to the task!
ABC News did break the story and included the audio from this nasty phone call but do will we see anything like the media frenzy which helped sink the GOP in the key weeks before the 2006 elections? We all know the answer to that.
Meanwhile, Congressman Mahoney has called for an investigation on himself! Compare that to how House Republicans forced Foley to resign. A nice, neat Pelosi controlled investigation which wouldn't be completed until well after election day is what House Dems have in mind.
So much for cleaning the House. Dems just leave the garbage to pile up on the Floor!
This episode reminds us of other recent Dem stinkeroos:
- Former Presidential candidate John Edwards had his own mistress and payoffs scandal that was also ignored for as long as the media could get away with it.
- Senator Chris Dodd, (D-CT) received a mortgage on the most favorable terms even though he was the head of the Senate Banking Committee and charged with overseeing the failing mortgage business. Senator Dodd remains the chairman of that committee.
- Congressman Charles Rangel (D-NY) failed to pay income taxes on income from his rental property in the Dominican Republican even though he is the chairman of the House committee which writes the tax laws you and I must follow. He claims he didn't know what he was doing was wrong and still sits as chairman today.
- Barney Frank's lover was an executive at Fannie Mae at the same time Frank was doing everything he could to prevent accounting rules from being adopted that would have limited executive compensation and might have forestalled the financial crisis. Frank still sits as chairman of the House Financial Services Committee.
Yep, when it comes to cleaning up the House (or Senate) a broom is needed. And it isn't the one Pelosi flew in on!
